Metabolism of Steroids in the Foetus BIOSYNTHESIS OF 60c-HYDROXYTESTOSTERONE IN THE HUMAN FOETAL LIVER

چکیده

Schubert, Wehrberger & Frankenberg (1964) first isolated and identified 6a-hydroxytestosterone as a metabolite in human urine after intravenous administration oftestosterone to adult women. The tissue site of O6c-hydroxylation was unknown, and it could not be excluded that the metabolite had arisen by epimerization of 6fl-hydroxytestosterone. Recently we demonstrated that testosterone is hydroxylated in positions 1,, 2,B, 6,B and 18 after incubations with microsomes from livers of midpregnancy foetuses (Gustafsson & Lisboa, 1968; Lisboa & Gustafsson, 1968, 1969a). Minor amounts of two other unknown C1903 steroids with a 3-oxoA4 structure were also found in these incubation studies. One of them has now been isolated and characterized as 6a-hydroxytestosterone.

Enzymic basis of deranged foetal flavin-nucleotide metabolism consequent on immunoneutralization of maternal riboflavin carrier protein in the pregnant rat.

A comparison of the kinetic and other parameters of enzymes of flavin-nucleotide metabolism in the whole foetus vis-à-vis the maternal liver in the pregnant rat revealed relatively lower activities of foetal flavokinase and FAD pyrophosphorylase. Passive immunoneutralization of the maternal riboflavin carrier protein suppresses foetal FAD pyrophosphorylase rather selectively. Additionally, alth...

Carbohydrate metabolism in the foetus and the newly born.

Carbohydrate metabolism in the foetus Glucose crosses the placenta readily, probably by 'facilitated diffusion' ; i.e. it travels in the direction of the diffusion gradient but at a faster rate than can be explained by simple diffusion. Since the foctal blood glucose concentration is usually about half that in the mother, glucose norrnally passes from mother to foetus. Measurements of the rate ...

The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body that is responsible for more than 500 vital functions, including biosynthesis of major plasma proteins, immunity against infectious pathogens, balancing energy metabolism and xenobiotics biotransformation (1). One of the main functions of the liver is an important role in drug metabolism (2). Since developing new drug compounds into mark...
